ABOUT AYURVEDA

Origin, History & Core Principles

Ayurveda aka the science or knowledge of life is an ancient guidebook to holistic living. It originated in India over 5000 years ago and continues to evolve and be practiced till the present time. 5Elements, TriDosha and the Prkrti/Vikrti paradigm form the foundation of Ayurvedic evaluation and chikitsa (care) protocols.

Five primordial elements or Panch Maha Bhuta (akash/ether, vayu/air, agni/fire, apa/water, prthvi/earth) come together to form the three doshas or bio-energies Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

The three doshas subsequently determine one's prkrti or unique constitution. The three doshas in their balanced state maintain order but when out of balance may create acute/chronic disorders, emotional discontent and a general lack of ease.

While most modern healing modalities provide standardized care and focus on alleviating symptoms only, Ayurveda stands miles apart with its individually tailored protocols that primarily focus on eliminating the ROOT CAUSE along with mitigating the symptoms It takes into account not only the client's doshic constitution, but various other factors such as seasonal and climatic conditions, age, phase of life, occupation and other life situations, that may bring about localized or systemic disharmony to one's mind, body and emotions.

Ayurveda is fast emerging as one of the leading modalities globally for addressing all kinds of imbalances using personalized diet, lifestyle and herbal protocols.

It is one of the few healing systems that strongly believes in and has long understood the link between the matter and energy, external and internal rhythms and routinely incorporates yoga (healing postures), pranayama (rhythmic breathing techniques), dhyana (meditation) in its educational plans.
