RESOURCES
Triphala is a classical Ayurvedic herbal blend composed of three fruits — Emblica officinalis (Amla), Terminalia chebula (Haritaki), and Terminalia bellerica (Bibhitaki). Traditionally regarded as a rasāyana (rejuvenative), it is used to promote digestion, detoxification, bowel regularity, and overall vitality by balancing all three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).
Its popularity stems from its wide therapeutic range, gentle action, safety, and increasing scientific support. Modern studies report antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and gut-microbiome-modulating properties.
Selected research:
-
Baliga et al., 2012 (J Altern Complement Med): Reviewed antioxidant and chemoprotective actions.
-
Peterson et al., 2017 (J Ayurveda Integr Med): Reported beneficial modulation of gut microbiota.
-
Sharma et al., 2018 (Chopra Foundation): Found reductions in body weight and fasting glucose in a small human trial.
Overall, Triphala remains one of Ayurveda’s most versatile and well-studied formulations, valued for gentle detoxification and systemic rejuvenation.
